What a year it’s been for Torfaen Dolphins Triathlon Club! As the curtain falls on 2024, we gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our members, honouring their dedication, resilience, and the spirit that makes our club so special.

Here’s a recap of our 2024 Club Awards, highlighting the incredible people who have made this year one to remember.

Most Improved Award: Sean Clarke

Sean Clarke’s journey this year has been nothing short of inspirational. Through sheer determination and perseverance, Sean has made exceptional progress across all triathlon disciplines. Despite facing challenges, including multiple bike accidents, he never gave up and ultimately achieved his goal of completing Ironman Wales.

His commitment to the sport, paired with his humour and energy during training, has motivated everyone around him. Sean’s transformation in swimming, cycling, and running reflects his grit, focus, and resilience. Well done, Sean, on a truly well-deserved award!

Club Contribution Award: Tim Clarke

Tim has been the heart and soul of the club this year, going above and beyond to ensure everything runs smoothly. From planning creative themed events to supporting members at every opportunity, Tim’s dedication has brought the club’s community spirit to life.

His hard work often goes unseen but is deeply appreciated by all. Tim’s enthusiasm and passion for the club have inspired others to get involved and contribute, making him a truly deserving recipient of this award. Thank you, Tim, for everything you do!

Newcomer of the Year: Eleanor Kingston

Eleanor joined the club this year and has already made an incredible impact. A regular at Thursday run sessions and Sunday socials, she has shown remarkable improvement across swimming, cycling, and running. Her achievements include a new 5k PB and breaking the two-hour barrier in her half marathon.

Looking ahead to 2025, Eleanor has set her sights on completing Ironman Wales, demonstrating her ambition and dedication. Her positivity and determination have been a source of inspiration to everyone in the club. Congratulations, Eleanor, on a fantastic first year!

Comedy Award: Andrei Arcana

Andrei has brought endless laughter and joy to the club with his light-hearted approach and unforgettable mishaps. Whether it’s starting a swim relay with goggles on his head or completing a 5k run wearing his helmet, Andrei’s stories have become legendary.

His infectious energy and sense of humour have kept spirits high during training and events, making him a cherished part of the club. Thank you, Andrei, for reminding us to have fun along the way!

Best Female Athlete: Laurie Klimowich

Laurie has made history as the club’s first-ever female Ironman finisher, a milestone achieved through dedication, resilience, and hard work. Whether tackling the steep climbs of The Tumble, enduring solo runs, or battling the choppy seas at Porthcawl, Laurie has shown incredible determination throughout the year.

Beyond her athletic achievements, Laurie has been a supportive and encouraging presence, organising socials and inspiring others with her journey. Her accomplishments set a new benchmark for the club, and she embodies the spirit of perseverance. Congratulations, Laurie—you’re an Ironwoman!

Best Male Athlete: Ben Pomeroy

Ben’s season has been nothing short of extraordinary, highlighted by his performances at Titan 70.3 and Ironman Wales, where he became the club’s fastest-ever Ironman athlete. Battling through challenges like painful blisters, Ben delivered incredible results, earning a top 6 spot at Titan and achieving remarkable times throughout the season.

His relentless commitment to training and racing, combined with his inspiring performances, has set a new standard for the club. Congratulations, Ben, on a phenomenal year!

Coach of the Year: Lee Harvey

Lee Harvey has been the backbone of the club’s training efforts this year, consistently leading Thursday run sessions and going the extra mile to support members. From early mornings to long drives, Lee has been there every step of the way, helping members prepare for major events like Ironman.

Lee’s dedication, expertise, and encouragement have inspired members to achieve their best, making a lasting impact on the club. Thank you, Lee, for your unwavering support and for being a role model to us all.
